2024 Bond Dollars at Work
On May 4, 2024, McKinney residents cast their ballots in the general election to vote for or against five general obligation bond propositions. McKinney voters approved four of five propositions. The total bond package was proposed at approximately $485.5 million.

2024 Bond Election
General obligation bonds are funds borrowed by the city for specific public purposes. Usage must be approved by voters and the bonds are repaid with property tax revenue. Bonds for the propositions that passed will be used to fund a number of projects over the next several years. Paying for the bond debt over an extended period allows the property tax collected from current and future taxpayers to be used to pay for improvements. The following propositions were up for voter consideration:
Prop A: The issuance of $106,000,000 for parks and recreation improvements
The city proposes $106 million in the upcoming bond election for the enhancement and expansion of our community’s parks system. The scope of proposed improvements is anticipated to include the renovation or expansion of certain existing parks, sports fields, and facilities, the construction of one or more new parks, and the acquisition of property for future parks development.
Prop B: The issuance of $36,000,000 for a municipal courts facility
The city proposes $36 million in the upcoming bond election to be used in the design and construction of a new municipal courts facility. The facility will house administrative offices, courtrooms, jury meeting spaces, city marshal facilities, and other spaces to support the court’s operations, which include upholding and enforcing local laws and regulations.
Prop C: The issuance of $30,000,000 for Public Works South Campus improvements
The city proposes $30 million in the upcoming bond election to be used for improvements and expansion of McKinney’s Public Works South Campus, located at 1550 S. College St. The South Campus currently houses employees, equipment, and materials that support Water Utilities, Wastewater Utilities, Street Maintenance, Traffic Control and Street Lighting, Procurement Services, and Parks Maintenance. The improvements would help the department meet the needs of the city’s growing population, now and in the future.
Prop D: The issuance of $70,000,000 for public safety facilities
The city proposes $70 million in the upcoming bond election for improvements and expansion of McKinney’s Public Safety facilities for the police fire departments, the acquisition of land, on-site improvements of Public Safety facilities. This bond package request is anticipated to be used to improve and expand the McKinney Public Safety Building, located at 2200 Taylor-Burk Dr., which houses the McKinney Police Department, as well as for land acquisition for future fire stations and improvements to current fire stations.
Prop E: The issuance of $243,500,000 for street improvements
The city proposes $243.5 million in the upcoming bond election for the construction or reconstruction of various streets, roads, and intersections, including related improvements and the purchase of real property interest necessary to help improve mobility and safety along streets and roadways, reduce congestion, and address aging infrastructure
