On May 4, 2024, McKinney residents cast their ballots in the general election to vote for or against five general obligation bond propositions. McKinney voters approved four of five propositions. The total bond package was proposed at approximately $485.5 million in funding.
Prop A: $106M for parks and recreation improvements | $22.5M or 21% bond funds issued
Funding the enhancement and expansion of our community’s parks system. The scope of proposed improvements is anticipated to include the renovation or expansion of certain existing parks, sports fields, and facilities, the construction of one or more new parks, and the acquisition of property for future parks development.
Prop C: $30M for Public Works South Campus improvements | $0 bond funds issued
Funding improvements and expansion of McKinney’s Public Works South Campus, located at 1550 S. College St. The South Campus currently houses employees, equipment, and materials that support Water Utilities, Wastewater Utilities, Street Maintenance, Traffic Control and Street Lighting, Procurement Services, and Parks Maintenance. The improvements would help the department meet the needs of the city’s growing population, now and in the future.
Prop D: $70M for public safety facilities | $0 bond funds issued
Funding improvements and expansion of McKinney’s Public Safety facilities for the police and fire departments, the acquisition of land, and off-site improvements of Public Safety facilities.
This bond package is anticipated to be used to improve and expand the McKinney Public Safety Building, located at 2200 Taylor-Burk Dr., which houses the McKinney Police Department, as well as land acquisition for future fire stations and improvements to current fire stations.
Prop E: $243.5M for street improvements | $23M or 9% bond funds issued
Funding the construction or reconstruction of various streets, roads, and intersections, including related improvements and the purchase of real property interest necessary to help improve mobility and safety along streets and roadways, reduce congestion, and address aging infrastructure.
