MPAC Renovation

The McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC) is undergoing an exciting renovation that honors the past while preparing the historic courthouse theater for the future. This renovation is designed to preserve the building’s architectural integrity while introducing modern amenities and safety upgrades, approved by the Texas Historical Commission.

This long-term investment will restore many original architectural details while introducing modern updates to elevate the overall guest experience.

When complete, MPAC will continue to serve as a cherished cultural landmark.

Project Details

MPAC is taking a brief intermission as we prepare for a new unveiling that honors its historic courthouse roots while elevating the theatrical experience.

This renovation is designed to preserve the building’s architectural integrity while introducing modern amenities and safety upgrades, approved by the Texas Historical Commission.

  • Building Preservation & Longevity: Improvements that will help care for the facility and keep it performing well into the future.
  • Infrastructure Upgrades: Comprehensive work on HVAC, electrical systems, roofing, plaster repair, ADA enhancements, elevators, drainage, and railings to improve safety and reliability.
  • Restroom Refresh: Updated restrooms throughout the building to provide a more comfortable experience.
  • Theater Transformation: Renovations to refresh aging technology and enhance the Theater environment, creating a more welcoming and patron-friendly space for performances.


Renovation Design

In the early 2000s, MPAC’s transformation helped spark the renewal of downtown. Now, we’re building on that legacy with a design that lets history take center stage, so the moment patrons walk in, they’ll feel the story of the courthouse and the energy of a live performance venue.

Experience Enhancements

Weaving the Courthouse’s story into the performing arts experience by:

  • Showcasing the Courthouse’s legacy as part of the guest journey
  • Creating a welcoming atmosphere where historic character meets theatrical excitement
  • Restoring the original 1930s paint palette, inside and out
  • Bringing courtroom railings forward in front of the stage, because some details deserve a starring role
  • Delivering a historical-inspired restroom renovation
  • Adding cohesive, building-wide, historical-inspired signage

New Additions

Introducing new spaces and features that expand the experience:

  • Creating a public art gallery and studio space in the basement for local art organizations
  • Adding new historic displays, photos, and narratives throughout the building
  • Repurposing the judge’s bench as a bar feature in the theater space, a new act for an unforgettable piece of history
