Did you know that history of the McKinney Public Library goes back over 130 years? In 2023, the library began exploring options to renovate the Roy & Helen Hall Memorial Library to ensure we can meet the community’s needs for the next 10-20 years.

On June 4, 2024, McKinney City Council approved funding for the design phase. 720 Design was selected to lead the project's design and implementation.

Design:
Many design options were considered to make the best use of the existing footprint, with the bulk of the renovations to be performed within the existing walls. The following enhancements are planned for the library:
- Youth and Teen Spaces: Dedicated areas tailored to younger audiences.
- Planetarium: A 26-foot diameter full-dome planetarium with seating for 55, offering unique educational opportunities.
- Interactive Exhibit Space: 2,500 square feet for rotating and interactive exhibits.
- Local History Room: A space dedicated to preserving and showcasing McKinney's heritage.
- Quiet Wing: A tranquil area designed for focused study and reading.
- Additional Amenities: Enhanced technology, additional restrooms (including two family restrooms), nine bookable study rooms, two elevators, consolidated staff workspace, improved and welcoming courtyard / green space, and increased storage space.
